Though no official intimation has been provided by the company, it is expected that the Fiat Grande Punto will be launched in three variants - Active, Dynamic, and Emotion.The Active variant is expected to be fitted with a 1.2L petrol engine, while the Dynamic and Emotion will be fitted with a 1.4L petrol engine. The car will also feature a 1.3L multi-jet diesel engine, which is reputed for its superior performance and fuel economy. The price of the petrol version of the Fiat Grand Punto is estimated to be between Rs. 4.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh (ex-showroom in Mumbai), while the diesel version is speculated to be priced between Rs. 5.25 lakh to Rs. 6.5 lakh. Furthermore, it is also believed that the premium hatchback will be having a 60-70 per cent localisation initially, which will be scaled up in phases. Just like Fiat Linea, the 5-door compact car is would be rolled out from the company’s state-of-the-art facility at Ranjangaon near Pune in Mahrashtra. Fiat has already commenced with training sessions and product demonstrations for dealers. Once launched, it will be pitted against other super-hatches like Skoda Fabia, Maruti Suzuki Swift, Ford Fusion and Hyundai i20, and yet-to-be-launched Honda Jazz in the Indian market. It is widely believed that Grande Punto is coming in early in view of the importance of small cars in India and the enthusiastic response to the car’s sedan version-Fiat Linea. Fiat Grande Punto, designed by Giorgetto Giugario, has transformed Fiat's fortunes in European countries.
According to an auto journalist, Fiat India has been buoyed by the overwhelming response of Maruti Suzuki super-hatch. After doing a feasibility study it has realised that this segment is an undertapped segment where it can bring in its Grande Punto.
Globally, the third generation Fiat supermini, the Grande Punto was unveiled at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show and went on sale later that year. A remarkable and large hatchback by Indian standards, the car shares some of its name with the previous Punto; a large number of its components are new, including a new chassis and body shell. Coming with EURO NCAP 5 star ratings, Grande Punto is rated as one of the safest cars which will ply soon on Indian roads.
