Toyota has been on the top position for a long time when it comes to sales charts. Surprise, surprise as Ford sold more cars in April than Toyota.
If you look at the numbers there really isn’t anything to celebrate as both automakers saw a huge drop in sales compared to last year.
It’s just that Toyota posted a 42 percent decrease and Ford had a 31 percent drop compared to last year.
Toyota sold 126,540 units and Ford sold 129,898 units.
Toyota’s best sellers were Camry and Camry Hybrid, posting combined monthly sales of 25,324 units. Corolla recorded sales of 18,534 units. Yaris reported sales of 8,118 units for the month. The Prius mid-size gas-electric hybrid posted April sales of 8,385 units. Toyota Division of light trucks posted April sales of 41,683 units, down 43.1 percent from the year-ago month.
Toyota’s luxury brand Lexus did the worst and sold just 7,189 units, a decrease of 47.8 percent.
Ford’s best seller was the new Fusion that totaled 18,321 units. It was also the best month for the Ford Flex that sold 3,190 units.
It is very likely that Ford will sell more cars this year in its home market than Toyota.
